Repeat of Some Pictures...

....because they make me feel warm and safe, secure and comforted in an insecure and scary world.
Wishing all a warm and safe and secure week.

Early Evening.....

Posted by Picasa

piebald beans, ham bone knuckle whiteness
tender greens
ruffled goodness of purple
red tomatoes
falling darkness
richness of ground coffee
a call to come outside to see the star
I run with the blessings of
white knuckle bone
freckled beans, richness of red scent
and perfect purple ruffles
to see the beauty of the white
spot in the sky.

Big, Huge, Scary Wind.....

We experienced a tremendous wind storm several days ago. It was so frightening. We have many big trees around here and although it is exhilarating, it can be discomforting.
The next morning after my grandsons arrived and were out and about, one of them came in and told me that we had a pelican in the nursery. Did I think he was imagining..yes!
We live about 40 miles inland from the coast..and even at that, most of the pelicans either live further south or much more up on the north coast. This poor guy/girl had to have come at least 40 to 50 miles.
I spent almost an entire day trying to find some rescue for him. I must have called every agency I knew, the Chamber of Commerce people on the coast..on and on.
He/she did not survive the night. I will forever call the wind that was so terrific and terrifying the Pelican Wind. I wish that I could have helped he/she.

I know that we will have such winds again...please may we not have such vulnerable animals buffeted so far from their home.

Back to Normal.....

....it has begun to rain here...it has been so dry and lovely and so abnormally warm for this time of year and in this place.

The wind is picking up, the sound of the rain falling is deafening.

I am loving it now. When I go to bed, I will be pulled into sleep with the water lullaby.

The wood stove is going filling the house with warmth. It is what it should be here and now.

Tomorrow, I may curse the wetness and the leaves that the big dogs bring in after their breakfast, but for now I will give thanks for the comfort of a warm house, the sound of the precious water, clean sheets, a warm feather bed, gentle snoring of those big dogs and the gratefulness of a home that keeps me dry and safe while listening to the autumn adagio of the rain.

Shadows..Light..Reflections..Color....

...coming out of my hiding place just for this time..

Hoping that all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving with loved ones, comfort and gratefulness for all that we have...

.....thanking all who come to this small space....

Wishing all goodness and comfort in the coming weeks.

Quiet and comfort, space and warmth......words that inspire and give hope.....

....light when the shadows encroach...

...warmth and prayers however you form them.....

...small and bright things that make you smile.....

......reflections of the here and now.....light falling through the window.....

...and the hope for what is to come in such a tiny little circle...

Not Much To Say.........Except..

Posted by Picasa

I am going to take another break from blogging. I am behind in all aspects of my life now. I am fine, just need to catch up on mountains of piles of stuff that need to be cleared up.
........company is coming this week, someone whom I have never met, a person that my husband knows through the nursery. I sincerely hope he has a high tolerance for sleeping in a bedroom with half removed wall paper, two very large and hairy dogs and spider webs that will undoubtedly reappear as soon as I get rid of them.
Most of all, I am feeling remiss in keeping in touch with some of my favorite people from blog land.

Best to all and wishing everyone a wonderful Thanksgiving that is fast approaching.

Plum Nelly...

...is where this little rocker came from. It's old and worn and wears the battle scars from a budding carpenter who once applied the teeth of a saw to one of the arms.
We lived in Georgia for ten years when my husband taught at Georgia State University.
One of the things that we loved to do back then, was to go to craft fairs in little out of the way places.
Way up in north Georgia was one of my favorite places...Plum Nelly. According to what I heard, this tiny hamlet was so named because it was "Plum outta Tennessee and nelly outta Georgia."

We bought this rocker for our youngest son. I found a beautiful handwoven egg basket which I still have. It holds some of my yarn and a project or two. Both of these objects are so special to me. They contain the memories of two little boys who filled my life with joy....and at the same time, they are from an era that was one of my most painful, a time that was so difficult; and too, a time and a place where I grew so much and learned to appreciate "me". It was a hard time, but it was a good time for growing and learning. I am grateful for that. Isn't it amazing how small objects can contain such memories and gifts?

Plum Nelly is not too far from Rising Fawn, another name that I absolutely adore. Plum Nelly and Rising Fawn are also close to Gass.

Well, that does put a damper on poetic names of tiny places, doesn't it?

Care To Go For A Walk With Me?

Here's one of my favorite maples. She beautiful in all seasons.

........And here, some very tender infants, creating their own patchwork of beauty. They will grow by leaps and bounds as the weather warms up. They love the heat and sunshine which is just around the corner.

Don't be frightened, this old beauty just looks scary. She's endured for years and carries many battle scars.

Here we go, tip-toe, tip-toe through these lovely little weeds,

and amble past the mossy elbows of the grapes,

.......here's some woodland sweetness,

.......trip-trap, trip-trap, watch out for the Trolls,

.......I think there's a dryer path than this,

......saying hi to the little pine,

Back at home, we made the rounds, though there is so much else to see. Perhaps you will join me some other day for a walk. Thanks for coming.
