Goodbye, Dear August....

You are gone in a flash,
bittersweet, but loved.
Thank all of you who left sweet notes.
I am blessed to have a jolly
sprain, and not a fracture.
Whoopee.
I'll be wearing the boot,
the latest fashion statement,
for three weeks.
I have family coming in a few days.
I'll be scarce, but all of you
will be in my thoughts and
in my heart.
I have some great photos
my son took today
that I hope to post tomorrow.
I wish all of you
a beautiful September.
She is such a special month,
is she not?
best, e.

Thank You

Thank you
for your kind comments,
everyone.
I appreciate each one.
Truly, I do.
I am waiting and hoping
that there is good news
for me tomorrow.
Saturday afternoon
I twirled around in my chair
and gracefully fell
over the dog.
I do have osteoporosis,
and in January of 2010,
I fractured a bone in my right leg.
This time it is my left ankle.
I am grateful
that I still have this walking
boot that I was able
to wear then
after my cast (orange!!)
was removed.
Some people have road rage,
not me.
I have been known
to have Velcro Rage.
Five straps,
count them,
that love to grip themselves
together in an eternal entanglement,
not counting
the flaps underneath
that one has to
smooshe together,
in a sticky, hairy embrace.
As some wise person
once said,
"Getting old ain't for sissies."
It does hurt,
and sleeping is difficult...
but I can walk around the house
in a hobbling gait.
I am hoping that tomorrow
after Xrays today,
I will be told that
it is only a bad ankle sprain.
best, e.

Overdue Book

There is a book
of sorrow
it is overdue
there is no
good in grief

We return it
and unawares
check it out
again
there is the spot
the warmth
of a body missing
the place
where she lay
against the chimney
and in the bedroom
sometimes by our feet
Unintentionally
we check the book
out and know
that one of these days
the library
of our heart
will grant us
a forever
chapter sentence
word
letter
of such a loving being
never to be
overdue again
best, e.

Early Morning Light

So lovely
warming up the spines
Dorothy passes a note
from Coleridge
to William
Roxane whispers
to Cyrano,
"It's you, it's you"
Whitman begins
a song
of himself
Dumas sighs
"Mon Dieu"
to Hugo
Frost mends
a wall
Hughes loves the rain
I hear The Dream Deferred
Henry James
begins
and Ellen
whispers,
"Brevity, brevity,
dear Henry."
Books warm
and breathe
in the early
morning light
and the air
fills with the
magic of
words
so long ago
written
but still treasured
pages gently flutter
dust moves
and settles
motes airborne
in the early morning light.
best, e.

Blessed Sky

Some days are hard.
Tomorrow will be harder for me.
Looking to the sky,
this is what I saw.

I thank You God for most this amazing
day: for the leaping greenly spirits of trees
and a blue true dream of sky; and for everything
which is natural which is infinite which is yes
e.e. cummings

It's good to look up
when life is hard.
It's good to look up
and hopefully be able
to send some
"leaping greenly spirits,
and a blue true dream of sky"
to some very loved friends
who visit here.
It's a blessing to me
to have connected with you.
It's a blessing to me
"which is infinite which is yes".
best, e
and with lots of love and appreciation.

Gifts of the Magnolia

Seed Pods

Overload, I know.
But they
widen my smile,
sparkle my eyes,
leaven my senses,
and gift my gaze.
Sculpted feathers
of communal joy,
leopard bonds
from the mother tree.

best, e.

Summer's Lease

Summer's lease
is almost up.
A few more weeks
and she'll be gone.
Right now
greens are still here
but mixed with
oatmeal, linen
and taffy browns.
Fluff fades
and is carried
on the winds.

Then, there are
her eiderdowns
she is gently
laying down.
Or, perhaps
they are fairy
trampolines.

They are all
over the place
and so magical.
Some were three feet long,
and as wide.
Soon Summer will
give in to
Autumn,
my favorite season.
Wishing all a good week.
best, e.

I am off to see my sister.
I'll be back (in case you miss me)
