Run With Your Scissors....

...find your old calendar that you have loved...
....make fat hearts, long and skinny hearts...cut them in half, limiting yourself ONLY to those heart shapes.....,no cheating...to see what you can create...
...sacrifice some of your beloved artists; Gainsborough, Bonnard, Winslow Homer, Klimt, Vermeer, Rodin, Monet, Blake, Bruegel, Hassam, Cezanne,Botticelli, Goya..on and on...
..keep trying...
..and realize how much fun this was and how exciting to try it again without the so restrictive constraints of half of a heart.

Avoidance Behavior....

......keep your nose in the books,

.....make some of the above,

.....keep those needles clacking, mix up some flour, water, a little yeast and salt, plunge in with both hands. Have a great day while the laundry goes undone, the dog hair continues to sprout from the carpet, and the spiders industriously build their little condominiums on the window sills.

This is much more enjoyable. The laundry, unmade bed and everything else will still be there waiting. It won't disappear on you. (Drat!)

Getting Back to Some of This

..although it is at a snail's pace. I have a scarf to finish and a hat that just needs some embellishment.
I signed up for a coaster swap that Amy is hosting. It's my first swap and I'm really looking forward to it. I am enjoying trying to imagine and figure out what colors, style, etc. that my partner would like. I hope I come close to the mark!
Have a good week.

M is for Magazine and Making Things

American Home Crafts was and still is, my favorite craft magazine. It was published in the 70's and is filled with all kinds of wonder for the lover of all things handmade. There is nothing "cheesy" about any of the projects in these magazines. Projects include anything from embroidery, knitting, sewing, needlepoint, crochet, weaving, leather work, painting, rug hooking and carpentry. Why they never lasted very long is a mystery to me. If you have a mother, aunt or grandmother who crafted back in the 70's they may have copies hidden away somewhere. I would encourage you to run, not walk, to get your crafty mitts on some of these..you would not be disappointed.

M for Making...I've been practicing and polishing my non-existent crocheting skills. These squared circles are my latest endeavors. I found some directions from Teresa at maggiegracecreates. (Thanks!) Since I normally can't crochet my way out of a paper bag, I'm pretty happy with the results.
Wishing everyone a great week.

Best.

Wherein Miss Mousie Says, "Thanks, But No Thanks."

Froggy came a courtin'.
Miss Mousie declined.
"I see you're packing at your side.
I'm a peaceful creature,
I don't like strife.
So, please Macho Man,
Get out of my life.

An Old Hippie Recalled to Life

I embroidered this shirt so long ago (early to mid 70's) for my husband. It's been in the closet for years.
I still remember exactly where I sat while working on this shirt and where we went the first time he wore it. It seems so long ago, and we were living 3,000 plus miles away, our boys were little guys, life was so different then.
I love this shirt as I did then.
It's good to remember and to hang on to some things from the past.
Best!
