It Happens

But it always makes me sad.
Such a short life,
and who is left to wonder
where he/she is?

I have learned that many times
they recover if left alone.
Not this time.
He/she is tucked in the flower bed
away from the cat and dog.
Fly away little soul,
and thank you for the beauty of your song,
the swiftness of your wings
and your feathers that reflected
the wide open sky.

best, e.

I like the thought of the soul flying away. Have you ever read the last page of "Watership Down"? Hazel the rabbit realizes "that he would not be needing his body any more so he left it lying on the edge of the ditch, but stopped for a moment to watch his rabbits and to try to get used to the extraordinary feeling that strength and speed were flowing inexhaustibly out of him and into their sleek young bodies and healthy senses".
Isn't that amazing, Ellen?

So sad to see a little bird flightless and still. Such a little life, cut off too soon.

From the sounds of it I need to read Watership Down! So very sad to see the little bird. I hope that there is a heaven for them somewere and that she or he gets to speed along on warm winds again. I am certain there is one for dogs if nothing else.
