So much potential,
but early rains do put an end
to the beauty that could be.
It is what is.
What came before the rains
was magnificent and such a blessing.
Is it selfish to want more?
Perhaps so.
I am grateful,
though feeling quite greedy.
I do want the promise of oaks,
maples and the glory of
the autumnal skies
to be fulfilled.

Beautiful fall colors. I agree, I always want more and I am so sad when the leaves start to fall. I love the line, "It is what it is." That is my favorite saying to my children about all things.

On my walk yesterday I found a few maples that had tarried behind the rest. Flame-red and sunshine-gold; they made my heart glad.
I especially love your curled-leaf shots, and the red tree next to the lime green. And what a quietly beautiful double trunk at the end!

Your pictures are outstanding Ellen but I especially love the last one. At first I thought the leaf had drifted onto swirls of water but now I think it's bark. Did you stage it or was it just there waiting for your artistic eye to find it?
I look away for a moment and you go all autumnal on me!
Glorious colours Ellen, but I think the last, more muted, photograph is my favourite. For some reason it put me in mind of some words of Andrew Wyeth's: "I prefer winter ... the bone structure of the landscape ... the loneliness of it, the dead feeling ... something waits beneath it, the whole story doesn’t show."
Your fall may be short - but it has beauty to last a long one! Our fall usually becomes quite brown and muddy without bright autumn colours occurs ...
